This is part 4 in a 4 part series: Another Floor Lamp

  2. Shade Experimentation

I found a few cone calculators online that will give you the details of the flat pattern to use that will roll into the desired cone shape.  I used rosin paper for the material, so I can cheaply make adjustments to the shape before committing to the real shade.

I setup a big trammel out of a strip of plywood, having a pencil hole at the two required radii.

It's looking like a lamp now.  I will make any necessary tweaks to the shape once the hoops I've ordered arrive and I can get their actual dimensions.
so what is your thought on material ?

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

I'm planning on a cream-colored linen for the cross-hatch texture that was present on the originals (although, I don't think they were fabric shades).  I'll use adhesive-backed styrene sheet to provide the structure.
Already giving a good sense of scale and feel. "Sleek, airy and elegant" comes to mind
