Hello again! Upon having all the drawers completed apart from the fronts it was time to decide on a design I toyed with the idea of having beaded edge drawers but gave up on it and considered a simple round over edge see more info later
In my stash of timber I had a beam of Hoop pine. Hoop pine is a rare commodity these days and its a very plain grain timber. The electronics is my home made EMC control measure for the wood pile
I sawed the beam up and used one plank for the drawer fronts. I cut everything oversize to I could customise the best fit.
This resulted in a reasonable fit for all the drawers although some may not be interchangeable, no big deal its just a matter of location marking the backs to their respective positions , this will be a hand and a number if somebody pulls the all the drawers out at once its go suck it and see, or if they by chance look on the back for the code! then its just a matter of figuring the code out I am not sure why one front looks different to the rest, (I will have to investigate) No profile finish for them yet, and the are just sitting in their locations. I am still pondering (I would be interested in suggestions BTW). I tried for a matching bead but after many adjustments I found the only way was to add a bead strip to each end, as the bead kept chipping out on cross grain. This involve recessing the ends and fitting a strip at 45 deg to match the sides,...way too much work so I will keep experimenting and come up with a solution no doubt. One thing I am going to have to do is find a flat surface to ensure the alignment is correct before fitting them. a sloping driveway and supporting trolley is possibly not the best datum. I wonder will Santa bring me a workshop!
Merry Christmas to you all, and a little Back to the Future... Past, 1994 to end with .
Merry Christmas all (even if you are not one)... enjoy anyway!!
