This is part 22 in a 22 part series: Overlay Panels for a Car Project

  1. Measuring the shape
...
  1. Tailgate panel
  2. Conversion Update #4

It’s time to get caught up on the blog. Progress continues in Michael’s shop. After many trial fits the bed side fiberglass panels are now permanently bonded.

It takes a good deal of body work to seamlessly blend the fiberglass panel to the body.

Michael’s attention to detail really pays off here. He ends up fixing “defects” I can’t even see!

He also has been fitting the original back up lights to the rear roll pan under the tailgate.

More body work…

In the end it will look like it came from the factory this way.

The next conversion update will cover more test fits of the wood panels.
Continuing to look good, Steve. It must be nice working with a real craftsman who identifies flaws you don’t spot yourself. It’s usually the other way around.
lookin real good steve.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

This will be one fantastic looking truck when completed. It will become a real chick magnet for sure.
I've done lots of fiberglass work back in the days and spotting those flaws before the paint goes on is never easy or 100%.
Messy, nasty work. Great you have a passionate guy to take care for you!
Looks like it’s getting closer to ready for some wood panels!

May you have the day you deserve!

I'm really getting the feeling now that we're "almost" there.

Good progress.
