I need to put a cutout on each of the 3 shelves and floor. For this I need a template.
After I cut the profile on a template, I locate a shelf on the template blank.
Then I glue a cleat on each side so each shelf has the same position.
I draw the cutout on each piece to guide my bandsaw cut.
The next 3 steps are shown here. Rough cut on bandsaw (middle), route with template (bottom), and sand (top).
Here's a piece ready for routing.
I use the template to provide extra support while rounding over the first edge.
The second round over is cut next.
And here are all four pieces.
Four pieces … wait … I needed 3 shelves and a floor … TARNATION!!! The floor only needs a radius on the top side!!
Sigh
Deep breath
Cut a recess.
Then I square up the corners and cut a patch piece.
Then fit the patch and glue it in.
Then trim the patch flush.
Now I can recreate the cutout. I start with a rough cut.
Then rout the profile with the template. NOW I have 4 pieces.
I wanted to have a similar relief on the underside of the top. This requires a new template so I can use a guide collar.
I planned on using the guide collar with my round over bit (with the bearing removed) but I didn't have enough clearance. So I formed the round over by hand.
