Parquetry in a Stained Glass Pattern #11: Wrap-up

This is part 11 in a 11 part series: Parquetry in a Stained Glass Pattern

The panel is done, but since it is a piece of another project, the final panel photos are a bit anti-climactic.   The panel received a couple coats of water-based poly, and the poplar balloons continued to give me grief.   The water in the poly cause them to pucker again, and I had to use a heat gun to re-activate the glue and a roller to flatten them.   If I ever use those poplar veneers again, I'll make different choice for the glue (at least), which I think was the primary culprit in the problems I encountered.

Here's how it turned out.  I'll eventually be building a frame to go around it, so I've left some excess substrate around the edges for fitting into a rabbet.   I've included a close-up of the patched square - the repair pretty much fades away.

Thanks for following along!  I'll share a collection of photos on a project post.

well inspite of all the issues id say it came out pretty damn good ross. and a lot was learned by you and anyone that followed this and wants to attempt something similar. id say it's a win win. thanks for the ride my friend..

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Thanks, Pottz.  It was an interesting project and definitely a learning experience.  I know some things not to do next time.  If only I knew the right things "to do" next time. 😃
Looks like a winner to me! Great blog, plenty of good info especially for cutting parts that fit!

What glue did you use?
That's pretty impressive given the challenges along the way.
I'm looking forward to seeing the final project.
Thanks, Splinter.   I used Better Bond X-Press from veneersupplies
Thanks, Steve.  Making the panel wore me out!  I'm taking a pause before moving on.
This is so nice. A gigantic job but a fantastic result. Woodworking of the highest level. Thanks for making all the pictures and the explanation.
