This is part 2 in a 3 part series: Singer Base Desk

Needing a small desk for guest area (Airbnb) that is vintage decor. Reclaiming a cast singer treadle for the base.

During our trip to Texas a year ago at Thanksgiving we had a great visit at a shop “Mesquite Time” in Santa Anna. Initially reluctant to sell any mesquite, after lunch with the staff and having a real nice visit, I was asked if I’d like to take a look at some scrap. Ended up filling our available space with numerous shorts which I’m now cobbling together for a small desk top.
Glued up a panel, about 25” wide x 21” deep
Working with the pieces I had, required a bit of a patch, and patchwork coloring. Sanded to 300 and rubbed on a number of light coats of clear shellac.

Next up… a riser and shelf for a lamp and a couple of pencil box sized drawers.
looks great dan. seems thats what happens to most of those old sewing machine bases.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Nice work on that table.........Jim

Thanks Jim.  “Junk” mesquite (cracks etc) , but once stabilized and polished up looks terrific.
