Journey into Hexagon Boxes #5: Finishing up

This is part 5 in a 5 part series: Journey into Hexagon Boxes

Back at it again,

I finished the inside of the case along with the interior surfaces of the top and bottom. I taped off the edge where the glue line was. I ended up with 3 or 4 coats of Wipe on Poly, sanded between coats.

To ensure that the panels would be centered and not slip while I glued them on. I drilled a small piolet hole and used a short cut off nail to locate the holes needed for some small dowels, (Bamboo Skewers). that is above.

After glue up these were sanded to 320, given a coat of Danish Oil. Once dry started the process of applying teh Wipe on Poly, lost count of the coats, at least 7 though. The Pecan ones took a bit more to fill the grain.

As I mentioned eariler they were being built to hold a coffee grinder. I mounter the grinders and was able to call these done.

Thanks for following the journey, Comments are always welcome and appreciated.

very cool bud !

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Tony, thanks. It was a fun build too.

Pottz, thanks. It is something different and unique. Hexagons are a different level over square boxes. There were a few challenges that I encountered.

I started another set, this time square and only 2. These have been posted as a project now.

Interesting design, works well.   Nicely done.

Ron, thanks. Something different for sure. I have experminted with different shaped boxes in the past. I have even been tossing the idea around of a round cylinder to mount one on. I just can't wrap my head around the drawer and how to make it yet.

OldTool, thanks. Hope to finish up another set in the upcoming week. And I still have 5 grinder kits packed away up on the loft.
