Back to frame making. Several people are retiring at my husband's school and so he asked for some frames. Three will be for the retirees and the fourth is for someone else. Not sure what he'll want to put in the frames so I grabbed a few cards and added a note in the one. I used various designs for the "stands." The one of mahogany required me to trim the frame bottom to match the angle, but was the easiest to glue as there were no angles between the stand and the back of the frame. The others required some interesting clamping (will add few pics at the end). All are "around" 8x10 outer dimensions.
Gary G - thanks! These are all approximately 8x10" so I thought they would likely be placed on a desk or table as they might look too small on a wall. So added the "stands" rather than putting keyhole slots for hanging on a wall.
RyanGi- thanks! Have enjoyed using the spline jig I built last fall. Still need to perfect getting the actual spline material cut - hard to get that perfect thickness. Too thick is better as it can run through the drum sander but too thin...will have to be for another purpose!
Yeah, getting the stock thickness right can be a little bit of a challenge. A consideration is to make up a bulk of spline blanks all at once, using a couple different wood types. That way you’ve already got the drum sander properly set and it’s just a production line to get the blanks properly dimensioned. Bundle them up and stash them aside for future use.
I’ve done this with kumiko blanks, since I’m impatient with fine dimensioning and kumiko is supposed to be a zen hand tool thing…dimensioning a bunch of sticks is not my ‘zen’!

RyanGi- I did work on trying to batch some pieces, but didn't run all through the drum sander. That would have been better than waiting until I need the material! Using the same flat tooth blade so no need to customize each time.
GeorgeWest- thank you! Funny, I never even thought to make them all the same 🤷♀️. Part of the fun is just figuring out what will work with the boards I have.

Steve-thanks! I've done quite a few of both! I actually have a little table top router that I purchased used that is permanently setup for doing the keyhole slots. The ones with stands just require my imagination as creating a separate stand seems more complicated.
