Mission Style Medicine Cabinet With Beveled Mirror
This is the second Mission style Medicine cabinet I built in this design. It's almost identical the first one I build and it's made from the same boards I built the first one from.
It's made from Quarter Sawn White Oak. When I built the first one I wasn't familiar with Madullary rays and flicks in this type of wood and bought it from a lumber yard that must have got a deal on QSWO.
The mirror is 1/4" thick with a 1-1/4" bevel around the edges. The extra 1/4” accounts for the 1/4” that’s in the rabbit in the door and allows for a full 1” visible bevel. It’s from dullesglass.com and It cost about $145.00 because it’s custom made.
The Hardware is from Hortonbrasses.com. and are hand forged from solid brass in their light antique finish.
It’s an in wall recessed cabinet and is built to fit between the studs.
I placed one of my oil paintings on an easel to reflect its image in the mirror. It looks much better than my shop wall.

well done my friend. so is it clear glass or frosted on the front panel ?

Well done James, the style is wonderful. I haven't used Oak much for cabinets, but it does look nice, may need to revisit the oak for a upcoming project. Thanks for sharing.

Whenever I resurrect an old project, I always look forward to correcting design/build errors in the original. Any regrets?
I have a box of 12"x12" beveled mirrors that were about $2 each, wish they were rectangular since that really dresses up a cabinet like that.

Mission and A&C are two of my favorite styles. Most girls I know wouldn’t fit in there either.

Splinter, not many regrets. On the first build I wish I was better at installing inset doors and mortising henges. Now that I have installed dozens of them it’s second nature.

Thanks Ron. I do try to take the best photos that I can. Sometimes it seems taking photos of a project is as much a challenge as buildings it.
There’s a lot of setup, lighting decisions and trial and error at this stage of the presentation especially with the larger projects.
Many people only notice the photography when it’s not so good.
