Turned salt cellar box

Another lathe project but I haven't seen one like it on this site so I though I would add it for those looking for new ideas.
This one is Big Leaf Maple the lid is attached using a 1/4" brass pin glued into the lid and then it inserts into a 1/4" brass tube in the bottom so it can rotate open. A pair of magnets hold it in the closed position and on some I have used magnets to hold the scoop in place on the top. The texturing on the side is made with a Dremel tool with a round cutting tip.
For some reason the second photo doesn't show so you need to click on it to view the lid in the unmounted position.
That's a good one! First one I've seen with a spoon attached, nice touch.

Wonderful turning Les. the little spoon is a great idea. Using a pin and the magnet works well.

very nice my friend.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Looks great! I like the spoon too!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Cleaver lid mechanism, probably snaps into the perfect closed position.

Spoon idea is a good one, perfect combo Les!
The spoon makes it, might need to borrow that at some point down the road.

Thanks everyone. I made several of these a while back and the cooks just love them.
They were finished with a salad bowl finish from General. Very hard and durable.
