wine barrel bar (father & son) project !
Project Information
this is our second project together,his idea and design.made from an old weathered whiskey barrel just freshly used as a beer fermenting barrel,actually came with a little left.he left the barrel as is in a rustic condition.before cutting the door he ran a self drilling screw into each stave so when it dried out it wouldnt fall apart.we reinforced the door with cross arms of oak and installed small gate type hinges with a slide bolt latch.the shelves are lazy susan's to make access easier.the barrel is lit with a motion sensitive led light top and bottom shelf.we installed wheels to make moving easy.he painted the bands black and sprayed the interior and exterior with poly.any ideas or suggestions are welcome.

I started one once. It went wacko when I started cutting the door. I never finished it. I'm a quitter......
Didn't really want to do it in the first place. It was old and in bad shape to start with.
Screwing the staves would have helped a lot. Your son was smarter than me.
It looks good. More important though is spending the time with your son.

Figuring out how to do something you have never done is what makes a good challenge.
thansk bent. yeah ya gotta screw each stave to the band or it's gonna fall apart. it was used to make cider and still had about a gallon of sludge when he got it.

Nice one Pottz. I used to see those used wine & whiskey barrels in the big box stores.
I think most are now shipped to Ireland and Scotland. 90% of Scotch and Irish whiskey are made in used Bourbon barrels and now their making whiskey in wine barrels.
According to law whiskey can’t be called bourbon if it’s made in a used barrels.
Maybe that’s why Scotch and Irish whiskey are so good. Their flavored with great American Bourbon. Sloppy seconds? I’d rather drink Bourbon.
I wonder if Ryan G knows it’s raining here.
