This is part 3 in a 3 part series: MacBeath

  1. Introduction
  1. White Wenge
  2. Red Zebrawood

Also, not a typo. Red Zebrawood. Just came in.

No, I don’t work there. I just go in a lot.

This is interesting but I wonder if it would just get mistaken for another wood? I don’t know. It’s super unique looking to me.

? never heard of red zebrawood before.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

From a distance it looks like ribbon stripe Sapele. When I zoom in it has that red oak grain look . Maybe a red oak and Sapele made a sapling
I should stop in and see what sizes that have it in. Surely the supply won’t last forever. Wonder what the pricing is
It’s going FAST! Arrived 5 (?) weeks ago and is down to just 4 boards left. Only $6.10 per board foot

it's beautiful wood. ill have to ask my wood guy about it. he carries about 60 different woods domestic and exotic.

Yeah, just looked it up! It’s real!

Sometimes sold under the name Red Zebrawood, the appellation may not be far from reality. As may be deduced from the names of the genera for Ebiara and Zebrawood (Berlinia and Microberlinia, respectively), the two woods are closely related. Both genera are placed in the Detarieae tribe, which is contained in the subfamily Caesalpinioideae, which is placed under the very broad Fabaceae (legume) family.
I had them cut me 3 linear feet. They only charged me for 1 board foot so $6.13 after discounts for being a registered business with them

I put my cutoff next to their finished sample

yours doesn't have as much striping though ?

Looks cool!
I suppose one needs to find the quarter sawn cut (just as with "traditional" zebra wood), but the tone of that is nice!
More stripier, 36” long 4/4 x 5-3/4” wide

Beauty of a board! I'd keep that up with my other treasures until the kid sell's it off for firewood.
now thats a nice piece  !

I dug to the bottom to find it.

I know I’m asking for trouble by posting the picture of what I left behind.

They appear to be regularly restocking this stuff at my location every time it gets low. They also just advertised it online.

That board above is pretty but looks too much like Bubinga to me, and I am stocked up on Bubinga for now
yeah looks a lot like bubinga.

Nice! Hit it with a little yellow die and call it tiger wood! I bought a plank of plain zebra wood, and have yet to do this. I'll make her some ear rings, eventually.
