Urban Ore #34: Record 77 Spare Iron

This is part 34 in a 35 part series: Urban Ore

For $1, picked up this new-in-package plane blade. Lord only knows how old it is. When was the last time Marples was in business. Also, looks to be of Canadian origin, because Canada mandates dual-language packaging in French/English. I certainly paid less than what this cost new when it was actually new.

Now I just need to find a Record 77 bull nose shoulder plane, and I’ll have a spare blade. Rather, I could also buy/find one missing an iron and still be set.

Almost less than a first-class stamp!

Good spare or grind to an alternate angle. Wonder if it is compatible with other bodies?
marples is still in business just not sold here anymore. ive had these chisels for about 25 years.

Still in Business? No way! I am surprised
on marples website it says woodcraft is a distributor, but i couldn't find anything on their website ?

I think they were bought out by Irwin or at least now sell under the Irwin brand.
yeah record bought maples in 1985, then irwin bought them in the mid nineties, then stanley bought them in 1917 ! there is only a handful of companies that own everybody.

Stanley owns half of the tools used in construction
i remember back on LJ'S someone posted a chart showing the big companies and who was under their umbrella. it was several that owned just about everyone. stanley is huge.
