Misc. Shop Stuff #3: Progress on Gable Built-Ins

If you remember "The Gable Built-Ins" blog from that other site (Jan '22), this picture should look familiar.

Well, with the extreme temps taking me away from house painting for awhile, I've restarted work on said built-ins by fashioning tops out of salvaged 1" t&g pine floor boards. Ripped away the edges and jointed them in sizes that  I could then run through the DeWalt  planer.

Cut a 40 degree edge to match up with the sloped ceiling, and it looks good.

And the other side:

Fronts and center edges runs long, but for now that's on purpose. Slopes aren't necessarily square, but the cuts of the tops will be!

More to come when I get more progress!

[Counts months on fingers] Good to see the update, Smitty! If my sweetie asks me when my fancy laundry hamper is going to be done (also blogged on That Other Site), I’ll see if I can work this into the conversation…

May you have the day you deserve!

Nice looking recycled boards

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Any port in a storm, Dave. Happy to help!

Thanks Gents. There’s been a bit more prep work done behind the scenes that’ll lead to more progress. Hopefully sooner than later.

Looks nice, I do remember seeing this over there. I get the same way at times, a project will sit for a bit.

Main Street to the Mountains

I was wondering a few months ago what happened to this build. Glad you brought it back to life.

Don’t finish too quickly, Smitty! I’m working on a swap project instead of the fancy hamper.

May you have the day you deserve!

Kreg jig made it possible to creat this 12’ wide face frame, and I Love it.

A tweak or two before nailing it in place (loose clamps in pic). Very, very pleased with fit.

You should be pleased with the fit. It isn't easy to build something that large that large that fits perfectly.
Nice work.

Thx Duck! Think it’ll come out and get spray painted before getting nailed in place. Awkward, but a great fit. Really happy.

What Stanley model # is a Kreg jig?
Where do you get all of the pine flooring?
lol, Kreg ain’t in Blood and Gore…

Flooring came from a house I tore down about 7 years ago. A real POS, but one room had awesome floorboards and we managed to get some out in reasonable condition.

It's hard to resist free lumber. Even more so when it's old growth and nice looking.
this looks great. i have a space that's very similar. window and all. I might just steal your ideas.
