Yeah, so, on a whim I tracked down a cash register to use when having what is becoming semi-annual rummage / garage sales.

Works great, but WOW did someone go nuts with the stapler repairs to the back end of the cash drawer!

Yeah, really nuts.

Not exactly high-brow stuff, but a bit of wood butchery, some purposeful glue-ups, and small selection of nails later have given this drawer a new lease on useful life.

Cha-CHING! :-)

You know you have too many tools when you need a cash register in the shop!
And here I woulda just hot-glued the staples in place. ;-)

Nice repair, Smitty!

May you have the day you deserve!

I didn't realize I needed a cash register for my garage sales until right now. And I know where to go for help fixing it when I find it!

Well, you don't really need a cash register for garage sales. I mean, it may take a sale or two just to make the $ back that got me this one. But it'll be more fun having one. Why not have a register, is what I'm thinking. That said, this one is almost too large. But it has four change slots in front, and is old enough that the highest amount that can be rung up on the keys is the princely sum of $3.95. Definitely yard sale numbers.

I think you need to make a change dispenser for it smitty so the coins go down the little twisty slide to a cup for the customer to collect them 😎
I want a vintage cash register!! How cool…

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

I think that’s require a cord, so that’s a No Go. Would be cool. But I also don’t want to give change at yard sales. ‘Just pick up one more thing to get to an even $ number, ‘cause I’m low on quarters.’ :-)

Tag underneath cash drawer says it was ordered 11 Aug 1924 for a customer that is about 70 minutes drive from me.

That’s really cool Smitty.  I really hope I don’t stumble on an old cash register anywhere.  Now I’ll be tempted to buy it if I do.

I had that exact thought.

Sitting in Dad's shop space and wondering....

Could I make a counter of some kind that looks kinda like (is inspired by) this:

That replaces this ad hoc setup (old coffee table and pressed-wood cabinet):

It'd take some customer millwork, and thinking 'old school,' but could be fun.

I really feel like you can probably come up with some improvements there Smitty.  I know we all love pressboard and drywall screws but I have confidence you can top it 😉

It's proper joinery if you think of them as mini pinch dogs.
