Hello all!  I'm a relatively new woodworker.  I got started during the pandemic as a hobby and am still very much learning.  My first project was a pair of Japanese sawhorses:

I have built a benchtop that I'm pretty pleased with and am working on the undercarriage of a Moravian workbench, using the sawhorses to hold the benchtop in the meantime.  I live in an apartment and do most of my woodworking in my 6x9 office, all with hand tools.

My other hobby is coffee; I roast my own coffee and drink espresso from my Olympia Cremina.  I have a couple kids and my day job is as a software engineer.  I look forward to posting more projects here going forward and joining in on swaps and other projects!

Welcome,
Sawhorses are a good start,  they look good and strong too.

There is a thread called
Whatcha drinking?

Good place to post some of your coffee stories.

Figuring out how to do something you have never done is what makes a good challenge.

Welcome. I drink coffee, but it's just coffee. And a lot of it. As for my hobbies, I usually can't list them all in a single breath

Welcome aboard f'S'... Don't be embarrassed about office work... I started on a 1st floor balcony.

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Welcome! I'm also a new/hand tools/living&backyard/hobby woodworker, too! Great looking saw horses!

Welcome! What kind of projects are you interested in?

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Great to have you here, I still have my first pair of saw horses and still use them. Not as sturdy as yours are however 🙂

C'mon guys... nothing like a CNC mess inside an appartment, lengthy timber through plaster board and the spanking from SWMBO for the clean up!

RyanGi (not sure how to reply directly or quote a message) asked what I'm most interested in.  For starters I'm very eager to continue building my own tools and storage.  For example here are some things I'm planning on making:
  • Mallet
  • Router Plane (thanks to Paul Sellers)
  • Try Square
  • Frame Saw
  • Leg Vise
I already made winding sticks and a straightedge, tho there isn't a lot to that.  I also have an in progress bench screw for use in a Crochet, but I haven't made the Crochet itself.

Once I have made much of the above my next steps are to make a staked footstool, a staked (not glued) round table for outdoor use when I'm roasting coffee, and eventually chairs, cabinet knobs (carved,) coathangers, etc.  My dream would be to make much or all of the furniture (again including things like cabinet knobs) in my home.
Sounds like a great start! Lots of solid hand tool folks on this site…enjoy the projects and forums and be sure to ask questions.

If it's only spanking, I think you are lucky, LDB.

Good luck to you. I look forward to following your journey. I work in a shop devoid of electricity and accomplish most tasks on a mini-Roman workbench. Can’t wait to see some of your projects. Nice horses by the way!
