Craigslist was good to me last week. A little work and $ and this is as good as new.

Not so much the pen but hundreds of blanks I made out of the LOSR (Log On Side of Road).

That’s good looking wood LBD, any idea what the mystery wood is?

LOSR... Some council I was passing through had chopped down some tree and left the logs sitting on the nature strip... stopped and loaded a few onto the boot of the car. 

No idea what species... I'm a meat eater and know bugger all about vegan...

SWMBO is into that stuff and I remember I once asked her what a particular tree was in the backyard... she said, "you fool, that's a weed that has wooded over!"... goes to prove my attention to gardening... my only comeback was... "you're the gardener, why have YOU left the weed there for so long"... I immediately started planning for my upcoming dentures.

I'm considering this a find because its for woodworking in a round about way....I've been looking for a steam generator for a steam box im making and this popped up on Craigslist today. Brand new and I got it for 10.00!

Now you just need the box. PVC may work, just need to support the length. I think plywood would be better though. Someone posted one a year ago or so on the other site.

I'm planning on using plywood. I have plenty around. I've been looking at lots of plans and have an idea what I'm going to do

I'll be following you on that, I may want to do a steam box down the road for a project.

Went down a rabbit hole on Craigslist and popped up with this on the other side. Picked it up this morning going off shit. 1940’s Delta, full height DP in really good shape. Basically zero runout on the spindle. The guy who sold it does hobby metalwork and couldn’t get it slow enough to not burn up his bits, so he found a replacement…but not before he dropped a brand new Dayton 1/2hp motor on it, a new paddle switch and light, all on a custom motor mount he built. Also included the original 1/3hp motor (which I’m told works fine), switch and motor mount, as well as all the motor cowl pieces. The bonnet is complete and in great shape, and basically everything just needs to be repainted (which I’ll probably do this spring when it warms up a bit). All in for $200!! The seller was a nice guy who just wanted to get the price of the motor back out of it. No complaints from me!! Basically, I paid a little under retail for the Dayton and got the Delta for free! 

I might try find a replacement Delta badge for the bonnet. The original is there, but I’m not sure I’ve got the skill to refinish it. Anyone know where I might find one of those???

Now, if only I had a place to put it….

Thanks! I’m pretty excited with it. I’m really jonesing to refinish the paint and bring it back to finish. I think it’s going to live next to the old Walker Turner BS…which is fitting as they’re from the same era. Love the pre-war/wartime tools…

I love them as well but around here they are all ridiculously overpriced

They’re not usually cheap here either…but then absolutely nothing is cheap in California…however, we do have a fair amount of them floating around if you look for them. I think its because there was so much wartime industry in the SF Bay area during WWII. This was one of those lucky finds since the guy just wanted to get rid of it and was (by his own admission) indifferent to the age or history of the machine…

Scored this Byrnes Mini-tablesaw on marketplace a couple of years ago for about $150 USD. (They are around $600  new)  They are hand built by machinist and modeller Jim Byrnes in Florida. No plastic at all and incredibly accurate.

Went on a goose chase for a Unisaw, ended up with more orange clamps so as not to leave empty handed. Not a huge score, but I'm always happy to pick up more pre-China Ponys!
