Unboxing Domino - question

For those who own a Festool Domino 500, are the metal sides rather "rough" on the edges?  Finally unboxing mine and was surprised at the surface.

Assuming that surface isn't important for the tool function so it is only somewhat filed?

Plate still has the protective cover (not yet removed here) so that is fine.

Just want to make sure this is typical.

yes but not that bad. mine has rough edges on the bottom but not that bad on the sides. you think for what they charge they would have some pride in the finish ?

Pottz - that was my thought exactly.  For the price, I was feeling a bit disappointed when I saw the finish.  I actually went back to the store, but the other one they had looked about the same.

Not having used it, can I assume the roughness on the sides should not impact its performance?
no it should have no impact on what it's designed to do, it just looks like they dont care about a finished product. on mine it looks like they at least did some smoothing on the sides ! it will be nice some day when their patents run out and we have more choices. watch the price drop then ?

Mine’s the same way. Casting marks I assume. Doesn’t impact performance at all..but it’s a bummer.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

i guess if you wanted you could polish it up yourself ?

Thanks for the reassurance.  I wasn't sure what was "typical" and, more importantly, if it would impact function in any way since I have never used one. Had high expectations given the hit to my wallet, but guess this is considered cosmetic and so less attention is given.  Hopefully, this disappointing first impression will fade as I get it back out to set up and use.
once you use it and see the beauty of that tool you wont worry how it looks anymore !

Pottz - I hope so!
barb, trust me your gonna love it for what it can do. thats why people will pay the price for one ! yes there are ways to do the same thing, but there all a pain in the ass way to do what it does. im not retired yet and my wood time is limited, and i have no time for those pain in the ass ways !!!! if you dont love it and wait 6 months and resell for what you paid on sale ? i doubt you will !😎

I need to eyeball mine. At first I was just trying to remember all the steps to use it, and never thought to examine it. Barb if it works as it should, you will forget about blems pretty quick. Only tool like it, and once the patent is gone everyone will be making something similar, but like a Fein multi tool, it will have been used and loved by you that even at a third of the price you will still be glad you bought one.
i agree with george. ive got a fein multi tool and i wont trade it for any copycat either. and the copycat dominos will probably not be as good either ? when you buy the best forget the rest girl ! that domino will out live you !

I've been watching several videos so hopefully I can avoid some of the common issues that can pop up with setup, etc.
While we are sharing photos of the grandkids...

Looks like some attempts at removing the casting lines, but maybe they only grind on the units with excess flashing?
Was in the shop several times, just today when I finally remembered to take a pic of mine. I guess you pay huge $$$$$$$ for what these do, rather than how they look. So I guess if it pops in holes you can stick a loose tenon into, and they easily mate to one in the other side it's finished correctly.
