A Trip To My Area Sawmill

Well today I took a trip to the sawmill I get my lumber from and just wanted to share it with you. I went there to pick up some more Hickory for my drawer fronts.

Heres the price sheet. Maybe you can compare southern Wisconsin prices to your areas.

That is some nice looking lumber Jeff. Nothing like that around here other than a speciality store and they are really high dollar.

Those prices are much better than here.

Jack, it’s the same way here in SoCal. Only specialty shops have nise hardwoods like that and they are very hard to find. I wish sometimes I was back in NC, because shops like that were all over the place. Jeff, you are so lucky to have access to a mill like that. The prices here for those types of wood is about 3 times a much!

The only lumber yard near me that has any product that can’t be found at home depot only carries S4S product and it is outrageously expensive (like about $25/bf for walnut). There is only one place that I’m aware of within 40 miles that carries rough lumber, but they are extremely difficult to deal with and also expensive (by far compared the place Jeff posted). Monopolies suck.

I am lucky . A guy about 15 miles from Me has his own saw mill and solar drying room . He has a very large assortment of wood . I buy walnut , beach, catalpa , hickory and at half price of most places

Wheaties

You know i had no clue what others had around the for wood sources and prices. I guess this was a good way to hear others experience in getting lumber. When i go back to get more ill take pictures of the kiln they have. Its huge! Ill see if they’ll take me on a tour of the saw area.

Jeff,

Those prices look really good. I don’t think they’re much cheaper here in the country.

Much more expensive here.
