Urban Ore #8: 14” Rockwell Bandsaw

This is part 8 in a 26 part series: Urban Ore

Serial number dates this guy to 1975. Found at my local salvage. These pictures are of when it arrived prior to them pricing it and putting it out on the floor for sale.

When they finally put it out for sale, they marked it as $150

Talked them down from $150 to $100. It’s going to need some work to become the resaw king I need him to be.

Getting him home was a matter of pushing him down the street. I live really close to the salvage yard.

Right about here (above photo) the local Sheriff rolled up on me. We chatted for a bit. I think I created another customer for the salvage yard.

Got it home after about 30 minutes of navigating the streets on foot.
Good purchase. It will resaw just fine but you'll need to upgrade the motor to at least 1HP. I have a 1994 version of the same Delta 14 in. bandsaw that I use for everything, especially resawing. I performed some upgrades however, namely installed a Delta riser kit to increase the capacity to 10-12 in of resawing. This necessitated a 1HP motor upgrade. Replaced the stock fence with a Kreg fence, etc. Best resaw blade is 1/2 in. 3TPI but this needs more HP to drive it. I have a blog post talking about this with pics.  Norman
