People on Facebook in Alex Snodgrass's Bandsaw box group have been talking about gluing these up for a few months. Stated to be the closest thing to free wood. I didn't recognize them until you posted about their use with lasers, which is usually also in their comment. Just from what I can see in the pic, looks pretty open grain. Face to face it may need a lot of work to glue up well.
