Gotta admit that for flat shapes I can't go past laser cutting... another good excuse to reach for those extra shekels in your lobster-pot wallet, SWMBOs love it... bought some self adhesive felt in a large sheet (roll), See no issue in using felt on flat quadrilaterals... straight snip, peel and squash is much easier than flock, however, it has more volume (thickness), which may not be optimum.
Nevertheless, for those odd convoluted shapes/positions, nothing beats a good flock.
If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD
