I used to really love the idea of college sports, until they changed the rules to pay some of the athletes. That’s just not right. They’re at the university, almost always on a scholarship, in a spot that could have gone to a more academically qualified candidate…but they got the spot. And now they get paid? Nah, I’m out.

I’ve heard all the arguments about how much money the schools make off them, but that money goes back into supporting all manner of programs. I played club rugby when I was in school…and we had to pay to play…as soon as the schools football team moved up a division (well after I graduated), the increase in revenue was used to fund every club sport on campus, and build better facilities. That’s what should happen: the school provides the opportunity, the school gets the benefit…it’s not a one way street, the athlete’s ‘benefit’ is a paid-for, formal education they may not have gotten otherwise.

If they want to get paid, so pro…see how that works out for them.
What we choose to spend money on in the country makes me shake my head sometimes.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".
