Set the quill stop using the gauge. Start with the shallowest holes and work outward from the middle. That way if you get lost (I did). You won’t drill too deep. Too shallow is ok.

Drill the holes. I used a #1 drill bit. I used a 1” Forstner on the outer edge. The center of the outermost holes is about a 1/4” outside the planned profile.

Now I  just run the bandsaw through the centers of the outer holes.

Next, the real fun starts. All you carvers out there know the secret right? How do you carve an elephant? Just whittle away everything that doesn’t look like an elephant 🐘.
