Went to bed one night and woke up with a slipped disc in my back which pinched a nerve that ran down to my left little finger.  However it virtually rendered the arm useless for pushing sideways and forwards. Lost about 90% use, though I could still lift with what little use I had left.
Doctors said to operate they'd have to open my chest push everything aside to get to the damage or come in blind from the back where a slip could paralyse me.
I opted to leave it.  It's been nearly 6 years and I've got about 85% use back though it's still weak in certain directions/ maneuvers .
SWMBO was happy as I couldn't pick my left nostril anymore, as the right hand did too much bloody (literally) damage..
