The things that look like screw heads are just rivets with the split used to spread them out. Usually you can grind them down and remove the plate, but often the core is glued to the other plate. Of course that combo turns them into a magnet with both poles on the same side just like a horseshoe magnet.
As a kid, I was always stripping speakers for those.
