Hi Ryan. I built my burner using a microwave transformer ( 2000 volts and 500 milliamps)- the dangerous kind.
I have a rheostat (600 Watt dimmer switch) in in so I  can easily burn small things. I made high PVC handles so I am far way from the tips. It was used a lot this week!!
A safer burner can be made with a Neon light transformer or a transformer from an oil burner ignighter. I'm told they only have 50 milliamps of current. I bought a neon transformer first but it burned out in a week.
