Thanks for the pics Debbie. I think that Roman metal plane is really amazing considering it was probably made about 3.000 years ago.

One old tool that never seems to get much credit is the chisel, even though it is probably the most important and most versatile tool ever invented. Non of the ancient monumental buildings or even the pyramids could have been built without one. And of course Michaelangleo’s wonderful sculptures could have not been done either. It is still a highly prized tool in almost all woodworking shops even today, and I think whenever we talk about ancient hand tools we should always include it.
