One of the real icons of French marquetry of the “golden age”. The style in which much of his marquetry was done still bears his name today and is widely used and taught.
The early bird gets the worm but its the second mouse that gets the cheese.

I took a few (not very good) Photo’s of this piece at Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh. To see his work and the details in person was great. I could have studied that piece for an hour, I probably did:) .
