I was set to just tie 2×6 rafters directly to the existing rafters , which would give me about an 8" drop over the length of the 12’.
But we can get a ton of snow here,
And I haven’t bought the wood for the rafters yet…

Not sure that 8" drop will work in a heavy snow load area, if you’re covering 12’ that’s less than 1in12 pitch drop. even with metal roof you really need at least 2" drop in every foot and 4" per foot would be minimum for a 3 tab roofing ,but 6" drop per ft. or more would be better.

Even going 16" on center with #1 2×6’s
Would probably be a stretch!
Our 1st snow last year was 20"!!!
I think my main shed is 4/12 pitch.
Do you think if I came up with some tough 2×4 trusses fom a couple of ft up the roof, I’ll be able to get by with 24" on center and 1/2" osb (all new)? I have pallet

4/12 is minimum for 3 tab roofing for it’s warranty not to be voided. the more pitch you have the less load you will have because only so much snow can stay on a steep pitched roof. Tie rafters will help but will take up room for interior storage.
having the rafters 16oc will help too, so would 2×6″ rafters .using #1 2by material will help. Any of the previous suggestions will help, all of them might be an over kill,but I like over killing builds ,it lessons the chance of having to come back later to fix something.

A building that size , you will only save the cost of 1 rafter if you switch to 24 in center verses 16 in center . Not much savings . With the snow fall in your area I would definitely go with 16 in center.
