Just for Fun #8: Gloat Box

This is part 8 in a 8 part series: Just for Fun

Littlecope Boxes have been entered, over the years, into a couple of New Hampshire State Fairs
with excellent results!

I am very proud of the ribbons I have won from winning and placing!
Shockingly, I have been lucky enough to win or place numerous times...
A while ago, it was decided to build a display case of some sort for them....
At first, my thought was to make the case kind of like a book,
two stand-up trays, connected by a hinge, held closed by a latch....
But when the various ribbons were gathered, there was one really huge one!

This one, clownishly large (18" long!) Ribbon is a Great Honor, but in order to accommodate it,
a two-sided display would end up being enormous!
Even all of my awards would look pretty sparse in it!! Lol
Anyway, It was decided to scale it back smaller...
It is going to be a simple shadow box...
Hybrid Miter/Box Joints are being used here, like Jack Kennedy said,
"Not because they are simple, but because they are hard..."
Marked first...

Then the Miters were cut with a SharkSaw Pull Saw...

Lastly, the Box Joints are cut with the Scroll Saw in the usual fashion...

The Back for this is going to be set into a Rabbet this time rather than a Dado...
Rabbets had never been cut here before, so time was taken to whip together a fence for that...

Lately, time is also being taken to improve on safety concerns...
2-by blocks were added on either side of the router, on the underside of my small table
(the better to clamp to!)...

Anyway, it worked and a piece has been selected to be the back...

Had to break out the big pipe clamps for the long dimension, it's a little over an inch too long for regular bar clamps..
The Shadowbox, dry-clamped to see if everything is copasetic...

Glue up is next, and then sanding...
I'm leaning towards making a glass-paneled door for the front of this,
to keep the dust out...
More to come...
