In this video we visit my good friend Nick Pancheau. Nick has taken one of his side table designs to the next level by adding a textured pattern with a CNC machine and he explains to us the inspiration and process in creating the design.
You can see Nick’s work at Pare Furniture+Design and you can follow him on FaceBook and Instagram.
The project design was inspired by Jeff Martin, a furniture maker from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Jeff has a great portfolio and is getting awards for his designs. You can check out his work at Jeff Martin Joinery.
You can also follow Jeff Martin on Instagram.
I hope you enjoy!

Thanks for the video Todd. I enjoyed it very much and I think Nick is doing some extraordinary design work. It would have been nice to see the CNC machine set up too. I have to say that I really love to see those textured surfaces which prior to the CNC had to be painstakingly hand carved. This is one area where the CNC should be able to make a big breakthrough with woodworkers, even to those who object to some of the other woodworking uses it has been applied to.

Hey Mike, thanks for stopping by and checking out the video.
I would like to have captured the CNC in action, but I was unaware of Nick’s project until he posted it on Instagram. I was lucky to catch him with the table at this step of the process before he finished it. He also did not take any progress photos with the CNC in action, so I had nothing to use for cutaways.
