I was in Denmark for 14 days in Oct. for my sons Masters graduation. During that time I took time out to visit Mads. His shop is like a museum. There is stuff everywhere, some of it old, some of it new, but made from old ideas.
I have made some clamps that I saw in his shop. He has posted these before. Mine are my own rendition of these Viking clamps. I am using sailmakers twine as the holdtogether. I also added some leather at the ends.

Interesting Idea ,nice work.

Cool.

This reminds me when I was doing some minor fix ups
and repairs at the kids house a couple of months ago .
my son in law had broken a light bulb while trying to remove
it . In earnest he continued on , until there was nothing but
the brass screw ring left inside the fixture . I scrounged up a piece
of thin rubber and cut it to a length the would fit inside the ring,
then I used a pair of linemans pliers, spreading the head of the pliers
until they made contact with the rubber. Then I put a lot of force
spreading the handles apart while backing out the rubber ring and
brass screw ring together . Leverage and friction ,…. two off- set
levers with a pivot point(pliers) ,working in reverse of what it was designed
to do , but it worked . Those clamps got me to thinking about
levers and pivot points …..interesting stuff .
Did you know Vikings made their shields out of Balsa wood . Sounds
crazy right ??? , …….crazy smart .

Crazy smart indeed.

( Correction : I meant to say Basswood /Linden …….not Balsa wood . )
Balsawood!! I do not think that the Vikings made it to south America.

It occurred to me a couple days ago that Mike had not been online for a long time and I sent him a PM and have not heard back either

As I have suggested, there should be some kind of panic button that we can push when we chose to opt out. Be it by spouse or child, just to let you guys to know that I am no more. They say that by 2020 50% of all facebook members will be dead. I am sure that holds true for all sites.

Can only agree, the amount of members I tried to contact for a 10 year aniversary was a typical example of the non replies.
I did get a couple from family members or friends advising the person had expired earlier. I only hope this is not the case with Mike however it does not look good especially when both phone numbers no longer work I know he has/had a son nearby by I was unable to make contact.
Here is my only info I have

You could drill a hole through just one side and put a T nut on the inside (beveled side between the two pieces), then run an all-thread rod through it with a double nutted knob to open and close this.
You could also make the centers, where they join, rounded, as a pivot point for a bolt, and do the same thing. Might even be able to make the pivot point with additional holes so the clamp could be adjusted to up or down size it. Though that might be better done with two strips of metal, aluminum or hard wood.
Hmmm, I see more clamps on the horizon. Thanks for sharing.
Kelly: At the pivot point I drilled a hole for a dowel that is glued to one side only. you just cant see it because of the twine.

This is another version I came up with a while back.
Kelly: I made these as a tribute to Vikings and what they could make 1000 years ago. Adding all-thread and tee-nuts is evolution. I am cool with that.

OMG what a monster, it looks like you could lift a Submarine out of the Barents sea with that!
