box swap 2023 pottz
well here is my project and bonus project for the box swap. not really a box guy but i managed to come up with a couple things i thought would be useful. i got gr8thunter aka "tony" as my recipient. my main project was a tea box made from zebra wood, ambrosia maple, padauk,spalted maple and bubinga veneer. top corners of the lid are splined.the emblem on top was engraved with a dremel tool.the lid is held down with rare earth magnets. the finish was a coat of GF oil based arm r seal satin and 6 coats of semi gloss rattle can lacquer.
the bonus tissue box is made from bubinga, wenge, maplezebra and birdseye maple veneer with a decorative banding. top is pinned and splined.

Well done, Pottz, on both pieces. The mosaic banding looks really nice. (I still need to try something like that). For not being a box guy, you sure turned out a great project.

Awesome work pottz! The tissue box inlay banding and the tapered legs on the tea box set them both apart from the usual. Tony got a really nice package on this one!
Just beautiful buddy. My wife was looking at these and fell in love with the tea box. Well done Sir!

Wow, what an amazing pair of boxes! I really like the inlay banding and the splined corners on the tissue box. what cool feet on the tea box as well, and it came with tea? ...hot damn!

I was expecting to see some cheap recycled cardboard but deep down I knew you would go with some unsoiled "new" cardboard and real packing tape..
You disappoint buddy, but only for the deception. Both look awesome with all the details and accents! Tea box legs are some fine pieces (former pen blanks?)
The inlays and exotics make this pair look like they belong in the 1800's. You need to make the matching table post-haste!

Not really a box guy? I find that hard to believe. They are some of the nicest box’s I’ve seen.
Great work with the dremel tool. It looks like the work was done with a CNC laser.

thanks guys. i used a router base on the dremel. id never call myself a box guy because the guys here that are do incredible work. like brian and shipwright,both amazing stuff. and one of the kings of boxes, dennis zongker !

Pottz, I know you can, and do, make nice stuff. And anyone who makes chairs has my deepest respect. That said, you kind of surprised me with your Swap projects - with the amount of detail you packed in there, and the beautiful woods you used - you really knocked it out of the park. Excellent work. The veneers are other-worldly.
